Tomatoes
Automatic retractable roof houses have really opened up the production possibilities for tomatoes especially in mild and hot climates. When designing the retractable roof production system for you, we will factor in whether:
- The market wants you to supply 7 or 12 months per year
- How the retractable roof could allow you to locate to warmer climates to reduce heating costs
- It is better to grow a long cycle with indeterminate varieties on strings or multiple planting cycles of semi determinate varieties that are stakes
- It is better to grow with or without stationary insect net under the retractable roof
- How the planting density can be increased
- Whether it is better to grow in the soil or using a hydroponic system
- The size of the retractable roof house can be reduced to compensate for the higher yields.
At the conclusion of this exercise, we will together create a financial model which will calculate the return on investment and profit per kg for the various production systems being considered.
