Flowers
Exposing cut or potted flowers to outdoor conditions when conditions are optimal can help growers solve many of the problems that they typically experience in conventional greenhouses. The higher light and lower humidity levels that can be achieved from retracting the roofs will help:
- increase flower development
- create more vibrant red and yellow colors due to increased exposure to UV
- extend shelf life due to the increased wax coatings on the leaves and stem
- reduce foliar disease and insect pressure
- reduce damage from shipping since stems will be stronger
